What is RAM
RAM which is also called as Random Access Memory. It is located at motherboard of CPU. which is used as a internal memory of the system. It is also called as primary memory of the system. RAM cannot store data permanently it only store data which is needed to execute any program from hard disk. Example If you switch on the computer the data and instruction are loaded in RAM from hard disk and when computer is switch off data stored in RAM should be deleted. Basically RAM use data when needed after that it is directly deleted. without Ram computer should be switch on. RAM are also smartphones which is called a mobile verison. Did you know that during the first mission of Apollo 11 moon it has used only 4KB of RAM and 32 KB of hard disk.
Types of RAM
there are mainly four types of RAM
1) DDR1 2) DDR2 3) DDR3 4) DDR4
1) DDR1
DDR1 is the first version of SDRAM which was release in 1998. their voltage was 3.3 to 2.5V. their data can be transfer during the rising and the falling of the clock cycle. it is commonly used as 2 bit pre fetch. it operation the speed of rate 133 MHz to 200 MHz . thus the data rate of output and input which double the clock frequency during increasing and decrease of the falling edge. if it used 133 MHz of data it means it can double Upto 266 mega transfer per second. Maximum size of DDR1 type RAM is 512 MB. Now a days its production has been completely stopped.
2) DDR2
DDR2 is the upgraded version of DDR1. which was release in 2003. their voltage was 1.3 V instead of 2.5V. their data can be double form the previous generation. it used 4 bit of pre fetch data. thus the operation of clock speed of rate 200 MHz to 533 MHz . thus data rate of I/O which double the clock frequency. Maximum size of RAM DDRR2 is 8 GB. Now a days DDR2 has been rarely available in market.
3) DDR3
DDR3 is the latest and faster version than DDR2. which is release date is 2007. their voltage was 1.8 to 1.5. it uses the bit of 8 pre fetch data. thus the operation of clock speed of rate of 400 MHz to 1066 MHz. Maximum size of RAM DDR3 is also same as previous version 8 GB. It is also easily available in market.
4) DDR4
DDR4 is the latest and more faster version than DDR3. which is release in year 2014. their voltage was 1.5 to 1.2. but their bit is same as previous version DDR3. thus the operation of clock speed of rate is 800 MHz to 1600 MHz. the maximum size of RAM DDR4 is 32 GB. it is latest it can be easily available in market.
